GlobalProtect VPN Bug for WSU Windows Users

After Information Technology Services (ITS) upgraded the Pullman Border firewall on Monday, March 11, some WSU Windows users are disconnected after a short period of time with a pop-up that says: “Your GlobalProtect session has been disconnected due to network connectivity issues or session timeouts.”

The majority of Windows users should be connecting via IPsec, which remains unaffected. However, for those that are connecting via SSL, the current workaround for this issue is to disable Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6) on the PANGP Virtual Network Adapter. Instructions for disabling IPv6 can be found in this support article.

ITS encourages technical support teams assist users in their area with applying this workaround as disabling IPv6 may require administrative access to the device GlobalProtect is installed on.

If the issue persists after implementing the workaround above, please collect GlobalProtect logs and submit a ticket to the Crimson Service Desk via crimsonservicedesk@wsu.edu. Instructions for collecting logs are also available at the end of this WSU Knowledge Base article.

This bug is reportedly resolved in the next version of the firewall operating system.
