Upgrade macOS 13 Devices to Maintain Teams Desktop Access

Please see the following scheduled Microsoft change:

Date: Between May 2026 and mid‑July 2026 (An exact implementation date for WSU’s Microsoft environment is not available.)

The following work is being completed: Microsoft will end support for Microsoft Teams desktop client updates on macOS 13 (Ventura).

  • May 2026: Devices running macOS 13 will no longer receive Microsoft Teams desktop client updates.
  • Mid‑June 2026: In‑app notifications will begin prompting users to upgrade their macOS.
  • Mid‑July 2026: A blocking experience will prevent continued use of the Teams desktop client on unsupported macOS versions.

All affected groups: Users accessing the Microsoft Teams desktop client on macOS 13

All affected processes:

  • Access to the Microsoft Teams desktop client will be blocked on macOS 13 devices starting mid‑July 2026.
  • Impacted users will be required to upgrade their macOS or switch to Teams on the web to regain access.
  • No impact is expected for Teams access via supported web browsers or supported macOS versions.

Duration of impact: This is a permanent, Microsoft-driven change.

Necessary follow-up steps:

  • End-Users:
    • Upgrade macOS 13 devices to a supported macOS version before mid‑July 2026 to maintain Teams desktop access.
    • If unable to upgrade immediately, access Teams using a supported web browser as a temporary alternative.
  • Support Teams:
    • Identify WSU‑managed and unmanaged devices currently running macOS 13.
    • Plan, schedule, and complete macOS upgrades ahead of the mid‑July 2026.
