Update Reporting Tool in Outlook, 4/22

Please see the following scheduled Information Technology Services (ITS) maintenance process:

Date: Tuesday, April 22, 2025

Start Time: 8 p.m.

End Time: 11:59 p.m.

The following work is being completed: ITS is removing the existing “Report Message” add-in from Outlook. Microsoft’s built-in reporting tool will replace this current add-in, eliminating feature redundancy. Microsoft’s built-in reporting tool will appear as a different icon group on the Outlook ribbon.

Visual examples:

  • Current “Report Message” add-in:
Screenshot of Outlook's Protection menu displaying options for managing messages. Menu includes options labeled 'Junk,' 'Phishing,' 'Not Junk,' 'Options...,' and 'Help.' A 'Report Message' button is also visible.
  • Microsoft’s built-in reporting tool:
Screenshot of Outlook’s ribbon showing a security shield icon with a dropdown menu. The menu includes options labeled 'Report Phishing' and 'Report Junk.'

All affected groups: WSU users who currently utilize the “Report Message” add-in in Outlook.

All affected processes: Outlook add-ins for reporting messages. Users will no longer see the current “Report Message” add-in on the ribbon.

Duration of impact: This is a permanent change.

Necessary follow-up steps: WSU users must become familiar with and use the new built-in reporting tool to report messages in Outlook.
