Biography
Gunjan has worked at WSU Information Technology Services for over 40 years, with the last 30 years as a member of the management team overseeing, at various times, Enterprise Systems, Security, Infrastructure Services, Architecture, Networking, Finance, and Customer Support.
After completing MBA in Management Information Systems and Finance, Gunjan started his career at WSU as a member of the core application development team, designing, building, and managing the implementation and support of enterprise-level applications related to business and academic systems.
Gunjan led the Y2K project for WSU and was instrumental in securing $1.4 million in funding from WA State to assist in the date remediation of Enterprise and Auxiliary Systems across WSU.
Gunjan consolidated the disparate faculty, staff, and student support units into a cohesive Customer Support area that provided first and second level technology assistance to constituents across WSU.
With security incidents on the rise, Gunjan established a separate Security group in 2003, and hired the first security manager to manage this group.
Gunjan functioned in the role of the Chief Technology Advisor to President Elson Floyd during the presidential transition at WSU in December 2006.
With the shift to client server computing, web technologies, and the cloud, and, with the rise of ERP Systems, Gunjan worked with WSU leadership to plan for and assist in the eventual replacement of the mainframe Student Systems with Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions in 2012.
In 2017, Gunjan started exploring options for replacing the mainframe HR, Finance, Payroll, Budgeting, and Grants Management Systems with an ERP solution by engaging in conversations with various colleges and universities across the country which ultimately paved the way for a successful replacement of the home-grown systems with Workday in 2021.
In his current role as a Sr. Director and Special Assistant to the V.P. and CIO, Gunjan provides strategic advice and guidance on technology assessment and acquisition, vendor management, business relationship management, project management, and technology planning, as needed.
