Previously enrolled students at Washington State University (WSU) are actively receiving email notifications about the scheduled access removal for WSU email and other Microsoft 365 services.
Disregard Notification If…
Former students may disregard the notification only if they will enroll in classes at WSU, accept an offer of admission to WSU, or begin or renew employment with WSU by their removal date. Access will remain if any of these conditions apply.
Impact on Microsoft 365 Access
Access to all data, files, and content stored in WSU email and Microsoft 365 applications will end on the removal date specified in the notification (within 30 days of the initial notification).
After that date, access to the following services will no longer be available through desktop, web, or mobile applications:
- Outlook (Email)
- OneDrive
- OneNote
- Word
- PowerPoint
- Excel
- Teams
- SharePoint
- Copilot Chat
Reason for Change
WSU provides Microsoft 365 services through licenses active during enrollment or employment. When this affiliation ends, licensing expires and access is removed according to university policy.
Many former students retained access to WSU email and Microsoft 365 services due to a system configuration that temporarily extended service availability. WSU is now aligning access with current policy and recent Microsoft service changes.

Action Required
Impacted users are encouraged to complete the following steps before their removal date:
OneDrive Files
- Back up data: Download and save any files stored in OneDrive to a personal storage solution (e.g., cloud services or a physical storage device).
- Transfer ownership of shared files: If you have shared files with others, transfer ownership to ensure collaborators retain access.
- Confirm successful copies: Before moving, transferring, or deleting any files, always confirm a local copy has been successfully saved.
Outlook Emails
- Update contact information: Update any accounts that use your WSU email for login, password recovery, or notifications.
- Back up emails: Export copies of your emails to an external file.
- Auto-replies: Set up an auto-reply message to inform contacts of your email address change.
Scheduled Reminders
Former students will receive reminder emails 14 and seven days before their unique removal date to help with managing this transition.
