Please see the following scheduled Information Technology Services (ITS) maintenance process:
Date: Please see schedule below.
Start Time: 8 p.m.
End Time: 11:59 p.m.
The following work is being completed: ITS is temporarily disabling legacy Exchange Online tokens as part of a planned test to identify Outlook add-ins relying on this authentication method. The test will be conducted in the following phases:
- Thursday, July 31: Legacy token authentication will be disabled. Within 24 hours, any add-ins that rely on legacy tokens may stop functioning.
- Tuesday, Aug. 5: Legacy token authentication will be re-enabled. Within 24 hours, impacted add-ins should resume normal operation.
All affected groups: WSU departments or users utilizing Outlook add-ins running legacy Exchange Online tokens
All affected processes: Exchange Online authentication policies. There are approximately six active Outlook add-ins that will stop working temporarily during the test and will no longer function after October unless updated or replaced. Due to limitations in current monitoring tools, ITS is unable to determine what these are or who at WSU is utilizing them. As reports are received, this test will help identify add-ins that will be impacted by Microsoft’s upcoming deprecation of legacy tokens in October 2025.
Duration of impact: Please see the schedule above.
Necessary follow-up steps:
- Before the Testing Window: We encourage you to notify ITS in advance of any specific Outlook add-ins you or your department may be using that are supported via legacy tokens. The technical team will document this information accordingly and ensure that those who engage with us are kept informed of any relevant updates throughout the testing process. Please note that add-ins may still be impacted as it is necessary to identify all add-ins that other WSU areas are using.
- During the Testing Window: If any third-party Outlook add-ins are not functioning as expected, please submit a ticket as soon as possible. This will assist with tracking impacted add-ins and ensure coordination with vendors can be completed to maintain add-in functionality.
