Starting today, July 31, Information Technology Services (ITS) is enabling Okta Verify for all platforms, including Windows and macOS, while requesting user onboarding not begin until September.
ITS also offers a new user experience for WSU’s Okta “My Settings” page at login.wsu.edu now with more features enabled later this fall. The new page is easier to navigate, streamlining the onboarding process for new multi-factor authentication (MFA) methods.
New MFA Security Method Piloted in ITS during August
New Okta Verify desktop functionality is being piloted within the ITS department throughout the month of August. With Okta Verify for Desktop, also known as FastPass, WSU users will verify their identity directly from their Windows or macOS device. ITS asks that departments hold end user onboarding until the pilot is complete. Following staff testing, ITS will announce this feature to the general WSU community and provide an easy-to-use button on the login widget.
New support documentation for Okta Verify for Desktop will be added to the MFA Options section of the WSU Knowledge Base as testing continues.
Please note that the Windows Hello and Passwordless features of FastPass will not be enabled as part of this initial change. These features are on ITS’ roadmap for a later date.
New Account Settings Interface
Starting July 31, the My Settings page at login.wsu.edu simplifies the processes for changing the account password, removing, or configuring MFA security methods, and updating the account security question.
New Feature: Update Personal Information
In September, ITS will also enable an additional My Settings Page feature, allowing WSU users to update their personal information, including their preferred first name, preferred last name, pronouns, secondary email, honorific suffix, and honorific prefix.
Once the personal information feature is enabled, myWSU will sync to the updated Okta My Settings page, routing users there for needed updates.
Employees will continue to be able to edit their personal information in Workday. Any changes made to the personal information in Okta will automatically sync with other university systems that use this data to display user profiles or details, including Office 365, myWSU, Canvas, Workday, and more.
Technical support teams are encouraged to review the new instructions for updating personal information in Okta to prepare to assist users in their areas with this process starting this Fall. Additional communication is planned as this change is implemented.
Support Documentation
Various WSU Knowledge Base articles are being updated to accurately reflect the recent WSU Okta My Settings page changes. ITS recommends updating any support documentation your areas manage as soon as possible.
