WSU has enabled a new Microsoft Education integration in Canvas to prepare for the retirement of the current Office 365/OneDrive and OneNote Class Notebook integrations. The new integration is available now and can be enabled at the course level.
What’s Changing
The new Microsoft Education integration combines existing Microsoft integrations into a single tool. It provides an updated experience with new features and the same core capabilities.
Timeline
The existing Microsoft integrations will retire on Sept. 17, 2026. Once retired, these tools will be removed and no longer available for use in Canvas.
Both the new Microsoft Education integration and the existing Microsoft integrations will remain available concurrently until the retirement date.
Recommended Action
WSU encourages instructors and course designers to begin using the new Microsoft Education integration in Summer 2026 and Fall 2026 courses. Transitioning early will help ensure a consistent experience for students before the existing tools retire.
To use the new integration, instructors can enable the “Microsoft Education” link in their course settings to add it in the Course Navigation.
