Please see the following scheduled Microsoft change:
Date: Between July 1, 2026, and December 31, 2026
The following work is being completed: Microsoft is retiring support for legacy Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 and TLS 1.1 on POP3 and IMAP4 connections to Exchange Online. All POP3 and IMAP4 connections will be required to use TLS 1.2 or later.
All affected groups: Administrators managing email clients, applications, or devices that use POP or IMAP
All affected processes:
- POP3 and IMAP4 connections to Exchange Online using TLS 1.0 or TLS 1.1 will fail.
- Legacy applications or devices may stop connecting.
- Custom or embedded systems may require updates.
- No impact to modern email clients is expected.
Duration of impact: This is a permanent, Microsoft‑driven change.
Necessary follow-up steps: While WSU has no known usage of legacy TLS for Exchange Online POP or IMAP services, administrators should review any locally managed POP or IMAP clients and confirm that connections use TLS 1.2 or later.
