The following work is being completed: Microsoft is automatically installing the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on Windows devices that have Microsoft 365 desktop apps.
All affected groups: Users accessing Windows devices running Microsoft 365 desktop apps
All affected processes:
- Users may see a new app icon for Microsoft 365 Copilot in the Windows Start menu.
- No visible change will occur on devices where the Microsoft 365 Copilot app is already installed.
- Microsoft will install the app by default and does not require user interaction.
Duration of impact: This is a permanent, Microsoft-driven change.
Necessary follow-up steps: While no action is required, WSU Microsoft administrators can opt-out of the installation in the Microsoft 365 Apps Admin Center:
- Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Apps admin center with your admin account.
- Go to Customization > Device Configuration > Modern App Settings.
- Select Microsoft 365 Copilot app, then clear the Enable automatic installation of Microsoft 365 Copilot app check box.
