Please see the following scheduled Microsoft change:
Date: Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025
The following work is being completed: OneNote for Windows 10 is reaching end of support. This version of the application will become read-only following the end-of-support date.
All affected groups: WSU users utilizing the OneNote for Windows 10 application
All affected processes:
- Only OneNote for Windows 10 is affected by this change. Microsoft will continue to support the OneNote application included with Microsoft 365, Windows 11, or installed via the Microsoft Store. Learn more about the differences between OneNote versions.
- Access to OneNote for Windows 10 will be limited to read-only following the change date. OneNote for Windows 10 will no longer receive new security updates, bug fixes, new functionality, or feature enhancements.
- Continued use of OneNote for Windows 10 prior to the change date may result in degraded performance or notebook syncing issues.
Duration of impact: This is a permanent, Microsoft-driven change.
Necessary follow-up steps: Impacted users are encouraged to:
- Confirm OneNote Version: Open OneNote and check for the File option at the top left of the application. If the File option is available, the supported version of OneNote is in use. If the File option is not available, OneNote for Windows 10 is in use.
- Transition to a Supported OneNote Version: Download the supported OneNote application from the Microsoft Store or access OneNote via a web browser. Sign in using WSU credentials.
- Verify Notebook Migration: Open notebooks and confirm that all content synced correctly to the supported OneNote application. If any content is missing, open OneNote for Windows 10, right-click the notebook, and select Sync Now.
- Uninstall OneNote for Windows 10: After verifying that all notes are synced in the supported OneNote application, uninstall this legacy version.
Additional information:
- Starting July 2025, Microsoft will enable in-app banners prompting users to transition to a supported OneNote version.
