Please see the following scheduled Information Technology Services (ITS) maintenance process:
Date: Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024
Start Time: 8 p.m.
End Time: 10 p.m.
The following work is being completed: Previously when the high risk relay pool was removed from the entries that are allowed to relay email through ProofPoint, there were limitations in the way messages that failed authentication were treated causing most redirected emails to be treated as spam. Since the high risk pool needed to be added back, Microsoft changed the way composite authentication is handled and messages that would have previously received a composite authentication of “fail”, now receive “none” are are treated neutrally.
This has resulted in far fewer (about 14-20 messages a day) messages being sent using the HRP, and all appear to be sent from sending domains that fail SPF and/or DMARC, so would have had delivery issues anyway.
All affected groups: Anyone using mailbox redirection through mailbox forwarding or inbox rules. The majority of emails are bulk emails.
All affected processes: Outbound emails that are redirected from a WSU mailbox.
Duration of impact: This change should take about 15 minutes.
Necessary follow up steps: Individual email issues should be resolved by subscribing to lists and conducting transactions using the external email address or using the WSU email address instead. Concerns can be submitted to the Crimson Service Desk for follow up.
