Please see the following scheduled Information Technology Services (ITS) maintenance process:
Date: Tuesday, July 30, 2024
Start Time: 8 p.m.
End Time: 10 p.m.
The following work is being completed: A vendor recommended change to our email filter has been requested to prevent a possible abuse vector that has been exploited in the wild. The process involves preventing Microsoft senders from being able to send emails through ProofPoint when we have not authorized them. To this end all Originator Org names used at WSU have been added to the allow list, any other domain sending to ProofPoint will be rejected. The current setup allows for all M365 tenants to relay emails to the filter.
All affected groups: All of WSU.
All processes affected: Email firewall change recommended by vendor as an exploit mitigation to prevent abuse of outbound email relaying.
Duration of impact: 5 minutes
Follow up steps customers need to take: None. All current M365 domains at WSU have been accounted for and will be allowed to relay through the email filter, only external, unknown Microsoft domains sending using a WSU.edu sending address (spoofing WSU) would be impacted by this change.
