Urgent Border Firewall Upgrades Dec 1 & Dec 2

Please see the following Information Technology Services (ITS) scheduled maintenance:

Multiple Dates:

  • Wednesday, December 1 – 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.
    • Pullman Border
  • Thursday, December 2nd – 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
    • Spokane Border
    • Yakima Border
    • SBDC Border
    • iReach Border
    • TriCities Border
    • Vancouver Border
    • Everett Border

The following work is being completed:  ITS is upgrading Palo Alto firewalls for campuses across the state on the below schedule in order to address a security advisory:

Duration of impact for all locations:

  •  Pullman Border, Yakima Border, and iReach Border will experience multiple failovers due to this being a major upgrade for these firewalls.  The failover will cause a one to two-second delay in traffic each time, possibly affecting very sensitive jobs.
  • Spokane Border Firewall | An outage of approximately 5 minutes is experienced for each failover, but the entire maintenance window is reserved for this work.  There will be two failovers as part of this maintenance.
  • Spokane SBDC Firewall | Due to not having a high availability pair, the outage will be approximately 30 minutes while the single firewall reboots.  However, the entire maintenance window is reserved for this work.

All processes affected: The failovers will cause a one to two-second delay in traffic each time, possibly affecting very sensitive jobs.
